2 K Swim – 60 K MTB / Gravel bike – 21 K Run
New triathlon race format called XTERRA Long Distance is first ever triathlon where you can choose any type of bike. Literally this means you can race from time trail road bike to the enduro downhill bike, but in fact the race is made for mountain bike hardtails or very popular gravel bikes. Our race in Lipno lake is point to point triathlon with second transition area on a different place than start, T1 and finish line. Organizer will transport your running gear to the transition area 2 and your bikes back to the finish line.
The race headquarters is on the beach in small town Horni Plana. There is a huge car park near the race venue, follow XTERRA signs to the parking lot. The race bag pick-up will be in a large tent on the beach day before the race and also in the morning before the race. Check schedule for detail times.
Get your race bag first. Put your bike plate on your handlebars, your paper bib number is required only for the run part of the race. It must be put on your front. You must use provided swim cap. Don’t forget to put timing chip on any leg. Don’t hide it with wetsuit or any type of socks. Put your run gear into plastic gear bag and drop it off in the marked tent next to the transition area 1. Organizer will transport the gear bag to the transition area 2.
The swim part of the race will take place in Lipno lake. We expect water temperatures between 18 – 22 Celsius. Wetsuits are allowed when temperature is lower than 22 C, wetsuits are mandatory when water temperature is lower than 15 C. Start will be from the sand beach. There will be marked 1K long loop and you swim it twice. You will have all 3 buoys on your left shoulder. Between two laps there will be a short Australian exit.
The bike loop starts with 8K long part on the tarmac road around the Lipno lake. When you pass Nova pec village the route starts to climb up and the surface changes to the gravel roads. You´ll ride around old Schwarzenberg water channel to Austria. Then climb up to the Moldaublick hill and continue to the famous ski resort Hochficht. After few K’s you cross the boarders again to come back to the Czech Republic. Last part around Jeleni Vrchy village is hilly, but the surface is very fast. The transition area 2 is located in the car park in Jeleni Vrchy. There will be 4 aid stations on the loop. The bike leg is marked with blue arrows.
After short downhill from the transition area you take left turn to a wonderful singletrack called Medvedi Stezka. You cross the hills to the village of Ovesna. You continue with a little climb on the gravel road to Nova Pec village and the last kilometers are on the same tarmac path you start your bike race. The finish line is on the beach in Horni Plana. There will be 3 aid stations on the run. The route is marked with red arrows.
